We are resurrecting the legendary Grizzly pistol utilizing all original parts that have been fit and finished to be better than they ever have before. Karl Augat, the son of Heinz Augat, has created a team to resurrect the legendary pistol and get firearms made for big hands back to the people.

Highly customized LAR Grizzly Mark I pistols in .45 Win Mag served as The Shadow's signature weapons, wielded by Alec Baldwin. The LAR Grizzly Big Boar, developed in the 1990s by LAR Manufacturing in West Jordan, Utah, became one of the most iconic .50 BMG rifles ever made. Its distinctive bullpup design and breech-loading single-shot configuration made it instantly recognizable and incredibly compact for a .50 caliber rifle.

The Big Boar achieved legendary status through its memorable appearances in major motion pictures:

  • Tremors 2: Aftershocks (1996) - Wielded by Burt Gummer (Michael Gross), who used it to devastating effect against Shriekers. In one unforgettable scene, a single shot penetrated a Shrieker, a concrete wall, wooden beams, oil barrels, an outhouse, and their escape vehicle - continuing for approximately five miles.
  • Tremors 3: Back to Perfection (2001) - The Big Boar made return appearances throughout the film.
  • The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) - Featured as tranquilizer rifles used by the InGen hunters.

Performance & Design

At just 45.5 inches overall length and weighing 30.4 pounds (without optics and tripod), the Big Boar was one of the most compact .50 BMG rifles available. The bullpup configuration kept the rifle short while maintaining a full 36-inch barrel for maximum velocity and accuracy. Despite firing the powerful .50 BMG cartridge, the innovative muzzle brake design and heavy construction made recoil surprisingly manageable - often compared to a 12-gauge shotgun.

The rifle featured a breech-loading bolt that had to be completely removed to load each round, AR-15 pattern grip and trigger group, elevated Picatinny rail for optics mounting, and came standard with a modified Harris bipod. Available in multiple finishes from matte black to stainless steel, each Big Boar was hand-fitted and built to exacting standards in Utah.

Karl Augat is the son of Heinz Augat, founder of LAR Manufacturing and the visionary behind the original Grizzly pistol. Karl was part of the original company and witnessed firsthand the craftsmanship and dedication that went into every Grizzly firearm.

Now, decades later, Karl has assembled a team of experts to resurrect the legendary Grizzly pistol. His mission is to restore the legacy his father built, utilizing all original parts that have been fit and finished to standards even higher than before. Under Karl's leadership, Grizzly Armament is bringing back firearms made for big hands and delivering them back to the people.

With years of hands-on experience with firearms in the most demanding conditions imaginable, Ron brings both theoretical expertise and practical wisdom to every decision. Ron oversees all aspects of weapons research and development, from testing original LAR parts to implementing modern improvements.
